Garmin Fenix 2 Issues and How to Resolve Them

SOFT RESET. Hold down the “light” button for about 25 seconds. Press the “light” button again for 1 second.

HARD RESET. Hold down the “down” button then press the “light” button.

  1. Every now and then the Fenix 2’s screen freezes, especially after plugging it into your Linux computer and selecting “no” when prompted if you want to connect to your Fenix as a mass storage device. Solution? Soft reset.
  2. When sending a GPX file over to the Fenix 2 via bluetooth, a corruption during the transfer can occur. This in effect gets your Fenix 2 stuck at “Importing…”. Even a soft reset doesn’t help, as the display at the splash screen. Solution? Soft reset. Then a hard reset. But connect the Fenix 2 via USB to a computer without selecting any of the options when prompted about clearing user data. On the computer where the Garmin is recognized as a mass storage device, go to the Garmin directory and within it locate the GPX directory and delete all the *.fit files. Then disconnect the Fenix 2. If it starts and proceeds with the setup wizard, the clean up has been successful. If it fails, try again from the start and check to see if there are other *.fit files you may have missed.
