The GUI Ubuntu Software Center did not cut it for me. Doing a search of available software didn’t display Skype. Going to the Skype website to download their Linux version didn’t help either. So I did a little searching and found this neat solution. The installation from then on was a breeze.
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install skype
